Imagine this: You are awakened during the night or early in the morning only to feel severe pain in your joint areas particularly in your big toe. You start to massage it and eventually find out that the toe is actually swollen. What could it indicate? Well, most probably these are some of the common symptoms of gout.

Starting off, our system has natural compounds termed as purine which are beneficial for giving the body energy and protein. Generally, this should be broken down and uric acid is one of its byproducts. Your kidneys then expel the excess byproducts out of your system by urination. However, once these purines have not been forced out of your system, it stays in the blood thus forming crystals in the joint. Symptoms of high uric acid level include the following:

  • Intense pain during the night
  • Warm to touch, swelling, and redness in a joint particularly the big toe
  • Extreme discomfort that lasts for long hours and then goes off in the next few days
  • Itchiness on the affected joint

Apparently, there are several causes why one suffers from gout attacks. But one of the primary culprits for this is one’s diet which is why given in this article are some of the foods that cause high uric acid and even high triglyceride levels. Take a look at our list below.

Foods High in Uric Acid Levels

A low purine diet must be observed in order to prevent the condition from being too painful. For acid reduction in your system, here are some the recipes to avoid and foods not eat:

  • Seafood such as anchovies, scallops, sardines, mussels, clam, etc.
  • Some meat is also high in protein and purine such as pork, beef, and lamb. High in cholesterol meat organs such as liver, heart, brain, kidney can generally raise the level of your uric acid as well.
  • Some vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, etc should be consumed on a minimal amount since they are high in purine as well.
  • Alcohol, specifically beer, and caffeinated drinks must not be consumed because they give your kidneys additional task to remove excess uric acid in the body.

The following are the foods that should be abruptly removed in your system to avoid stressful attacks of gout. Instead of eating them, opt for fruits and vegetables which are high in vitamins and minerals such as bananas, apples, red cabbage, celery, and tomatoes, limited amount of protein, and high in complex carbohydrates. Finally, drinking adequate amount of water is also a must on how high uric acid level can be flushed out on your system.
