Home Remedies for Babies with Cough

baby coughGenerally, almost all babies and toddlers experience coughs for the reason that their immune system is still weak enough to prevent them from getting sick.  While cough may be a natural task of clearing out foreign objects from your lungs, seeing your little ones suffer from this symptom which causes straining of the chest and discomfort to them are just so distressing.

There are a lot of types of cough, and it’s oftentimes associated with cold.  It may be categorized whether it’s productive or non-productive (dry cough), and acute or chronic cough.  Usually, this requires a trip to the doctor to find out whether the cough is due to bronchitis, whooping cough, croup, and a lot more.  And when diagnosis has been ruled out, you can also try some home remedies for babies with cough to help alleviate suffering. Here are some of them.

  1. Allow your baby to inhale steam to help in loosen congestion from the lungs.  This may be done by running hot water in the tub, and then closing the bathroom and allowing your child to inhale the steam from hot water.
  2. Giving your little one a warm water bath will help as well in relieving tight lung airways caused by cough.  You may add essential oils on the water such as eucalyptus oil, thyme, and sage.
  3. Keeping a humidifier in your room will be beneficial to help him breathe more easily and have a peaceful sleep.
  4. You can always massage your baby’s chest with essential oils such as eucalyptus oil, olive oil, peppermint, and sage oil. Vick’s Vapor Rub may also be used in this. Massaging with oils can help your baby inhale the odors of the oils thus facilitating breathing easily.
  5. Licorice tea or osho root are among the herbal teas noted to aid in the situation.       They contain antibacterial properties which help in getting rid of the bacteria causing cough.  If you are breastfeeding, you can also increase the frequency of feedings to your baby since breast milk contains essential properties which are capable of fighting infections from the baby.  You must also give plenty your child plenty of water and fruit juices.
  6. Allow your baby to inhale cool breeze, but make sure that you wrap him in a blanket before exposing him to cold air.

Over the counter medicine for treatment of cough in babies is always another option, however keep in mind that doctor’s advice should be sought first prior to partaking any actions.  These are some home remedies for babies with cough.
