home remedies for hypopigmentationMelanin is the substance responsible for one’s skin pigmentation or the coloring of the skin. The production of melanin is actually based on several reasons, and there are instances when a person’s skin may change color. For example, when there is too much production of melanin as a result of too much sun exposure or use of hydroquinone, it can result to hyperpigmentation. On the other hand, when the system produces only a little of the substance, it can result to hypopigmentation.

Hypopigmentation – What is it?

Because the production of melanin is reduced, symptoms such as white spots on skin are commonly seen. Vitiligo, tinea versicolor, and albinism are some of the disorders which fall under the category. Usually, the cells which are responsible for producing melanin are destroyed. When the skin suffers from trauma or any injury such as burn, it may produce the same effect, too.

Unfortunately, there isn’t any cure on how to treat vitiligo and albinism. But when it comes to losing the skin pigmentation caused by trauma or injury, there are some home remedies you can employ to lessen the symptoms. See more below.

How to Cure Hypopigmentation with Home Remedies

Once the white patches on skin start to appear, it may be hard to totally reverse the problem especially when it formed scars as well. However, to mask the condition, you can follow the following:

  • Ginger with parsley may be rubbed on the area on a regular basis as home treatment in eliminating the symptoms.
  • Corticosteroid creams may also be used as alternative remedies for the problem.
  • Self tanners and cosmetic cover-ups may be applied to help hide the patches on the skin.
  • Prolonged sun exposure is also noted to help even out the color of the skin. However, one should not forget to apply sunscreen since too much sun exposure poses one for skin cancer.

When no home remedies seem to be working on your quest, you can always consult a dermatologist and consider undergoing microdermabrasion or chemical peels to even out the skin tone. Finally, a trip to your doctor is essential as well in order to treat the underlying condition which brings patches on your skin.
