For some people who are looking for weight loss products, they turn to laxative use. Laxatives are usually food or drugs which are taken to stimulate passing of bowel movement as treatment for constipation. Nowadays, many people believe that using them can actually help in losing weight.

These may be available over the counter alongside natural laxatives, but they are not suggested to be used regularly since doing so may lead to a couple of health risks thus ending one in great pain. But as far as how to lose weight using laxatives though, below is the idea on how it can be done.

How Laxatives Work to Lose Weight

There are countless of types of laxatives available in the market. But generally, they target the large intestine thus increasing the bowel activity. They are usually indicated for constipated people as well as those who experiences bloating. Laxatives may also be used as colon cleanser thus improving one’s health.

However, contrary to the belief that it can be used to lose 10 or 20 pounds or how many pounds, their use is known to be ineffective since they do not really reduce the calories or burn fat for the reason that caloric absorption happens in the small intestine and not in the large intestine.

But Why Do Many People Believe It Helps in Weight Loss?

Despite the product targeting the large intestine and not the part responsible for caloric absorption, it may be true that laxatives can definitely help in losing weight but only for a short period of time. And most probably, this is due to dehydration where one’s bowel movements actually increase. These only help lose water weight and not the fat itself.

Side Effects of Laxative Use

Continued use of the product may lead to untoward effects such as the following:

  • Dehydration
  • Bloating
  • Cramping
  • Electrolyte Imbalances
  • Heartbeat irregularities
  • Kidney problems
  • Death

Sure, using laxatives may actually be one of the easy steps on how to get slim fast. However, with the side effects they give, it shouldn’t be used as a technique for the never ending quest of quickly shedding off excess pounds. Moreover, a couple of diet scams offer different brands of these only to find out that they do not work at all. Finally, though it may have been advised for the nth time already, with proper food consumption and exercise, you’ll be able to find success in losing weight.
