Ginger tea mixed with some honey may also be drunk to help soothe the throat and eliminate pain. Another alternative is lemon mixed with honey. Lemon is a good source of Vitamin C which speeds up recovery and kills bacteria responsible for it.

One can also make a paste out of the turmeric roots and a little amount of hot water. The paste is meant to be applied directly on the external part of the throat which can alleviate discomfort and pain. Among the many herbs, oregano also tops the list of what can help in treating the condition.

Finally, forcing clear fluids and taking a lot of rest are also beneficial to recover from tonsillitis. Diet should consist of fruits and vegetables which are rich in Vitamin C. Irritants such as sweets, spices, and cigarette smoke should be eliminated to avoid worsening of the condition.
